The Win-Win Tennis Academy June Schedule (5 Weeks)



How We Are Different:

- Improvement: Each teacher is trained in The Win-Win Tennis Academy Technique Check Point System, the most effective system currently in place for maximizing improvement of players. The system combines the best technical advice from the best tennis coaches in the world in a simple and easy way so that the kids understand, learn, and grow as players.

- Fun: Each teacher was hired specially because of their energy of inspiration, cooperation, and fun. At The Win-Win Tennis Academy we believe that the energy of the teachers creates the experience for the kids. So, we go out of our way to create an energy of Inspiration and Excitement so that the kids fall in love with tennis and make it a lifetime sport.


Mission: To create a community of players that mutually support each other in getting as good at tennis as possible.


The Win-Win Tennis Academy System

- Warm Up (5 Mins): We begin with a warm up that gets the players warmed up.

- Check Points (5 Mins): We show the kids The Win-Win Tennis Academy Check Points for the “Shot of the Day,” have the kids demonstrate the shot to us, and fix any technical issues we see. Each Teaching Pro teaches the same system, The Win-Win Tennis Academy Check Point System.

- Feeding: We feed the kids the “Shot of the Day” and fix technique in accordance with the Check Point System (10 Mins)

- Rallying: We rally with the kids and fix technique in accordance with the Check Point System. (10 Mins)

- Game (10 Mins): We play games that are designed to (1) apply the learned technique in a live scenario and (2) excite the kids.

- Final Fun Game (10 Mins): We end with a final game that is designed to excite the kids. We recognize that the biggest factor in kids continuing tennis in their later years is the level of fun they have at tennis class.


Schedule


Warm Up Games

- Ups and Downs: The kids bounce the ball down to the ground and see how many balls they can bounce in a row. Kids are only allowed one bounce. Then, the kids bounce the ball up with a closed racket face and see how many they can get in a row. Then, the kids bounce the ball up switching from an open to a closed racket face and see how many they can get in a row. Lastly, the kids see how many they can get in a row on the side of their racket.

o Objective: (1) To learn to use a continental grip. (2) To learn ball control. (3) To learn a wide base.

o Common Mistakes: (1) Kids bounce the ball too high or too low. (2) Kids are moving their feet too much. (3) Kids racket face is not straight. (4) Kids feet are too close together.

· Grip: Needs to be Continental. This gives the kids could practice with a continental grip which is used on the volleys, overheads, and serves. To get a continental grip have the kid hand shake the racket.

· Feet: Kids need a wide base. If their feet are too close they will lack balance. Feet should be stuck in the mud. They should not move.

· To High: Kids need to bounce the balls low. Often it is too high. If its too high, they will be inconsistent.


Relay Race With Tennis Ball

o Description: There are two lines, one on the deuce side and one on the ad side, both at the baseline. Each teaching pro chooses a captain and has them name their respective teams.

o Beginning Level: The kids carry the ball on their racket, touch the net, then return, and put the ball on the other kids racket without it touching the ground. If the ball does touch the ground, the kid can pick it up, put it back on their racket, and continue.

o Intermediate Level: Instead of carrying the ball, have the kids bounce the ball on their racket while moving. If the ball does touch the ground, the kid can pick it up, and continue

§ Objective: Ball Control, Continental grip.

§ Common Mistakes

· Kids run too fast: This is a game of concentration and balance not speed.

· Kids are focused on running and not the ball: This is a game about focusing on the ball as much as possible.

· Racket head is not straight: If racket head is not straight the ball will fall off.

· Wrist not firm: This is good practice for volleys. Wrist needs to be firm.


The Win-Win Tennis Academy Kid Check Point System


Forehand


1. Ready Position:

a. Head: The head is facing the net. The chin is up

b. Chest: Chest is facing the net.

c. Arms: Top of racket head is facing net. Cap of racket is facing belly button. Elbows are wide. Right hand is at bottom of racket. Left hand is on top. Hands attached.

d. Legs: Knees are slightly bent.

e. Feet: The feet are wider than the shoulders. The toes are facing the net.

2. Unit Turn

a. Head: The head is looking over the shoulder.

b. Chest: Chest is facing the side fence.

c. Arms:

i. Left Arm: Straight facing side fence

ii. Right Arm: Racket hand slightly down. Right arm is just behind back leg. Right arm is slightly bent.

d. Legs: Legs slightly bent. Weight is loaded on the back foot.

e. Feet: Toes facing side fence. Feet are wider than shoulders.

3. Contact Point

a. Head: Looking right at racket.

b. Chest: Chest opens up facing side pole.

c. Arms:

i. Left Arm: Left arm is slightly bent and on the left side of the body out of the way of the contact point.

ii. Right Arm: Right arm is straight, in front (aligned with left foot), and away from the body. Racket head is vertical. Wrist is parallel to left foot.

d. Legs: Weight transitions to front leg. Knees slightly bent.

e. Feet: Back foot begins to open.

4. Extension

a. Head: Stays where contact point was.

b. Chest: Chest opens up now completely facing the net.

c. Arms:

i. Left Arm: Left arm facing left fence.

ii. Right Arm: Right arm is straight, top of racket facing the net. Racket face is vertical NOT open or closed.

d. Legs: Weight is still on front leg. Knees slightly bent.

e. Feet: Toes are facing side pole of net. Meaning feet have to open up.

5. Follow Through

a. Head: Head pops up and is facing the net.

b. Chest: Chest is facing left fence.

c. Arms:

i. Arms: Right elbow is facing net. Left arm catches throat of the racket. Racket head is above the shoulder. Strings are facing left fence and elbows are out.

d. Legs: Weight is still on front foot. Knees slightly bent.

e. Feet: Front toes facing side pole of net. Back foot toes face the net. Basically, the kids are opening up their hips.


Backhand

1. Ready Position: Same as Forehand

2. Unit Turn

a. Head: The head is looking over the shoulder.

b. Chest: Chest is facing the side fence.

c. Arms: Butt of the racket is aligned with the left hip. Strings are facing outside fence. Space in between the arms.

d. Legs: Legs slightly bent. Weight on the back foot.

e. Feet: Toes facing side fence. Feet are wider than shoulders.

3. Contact Point

a. Head: Looking right at racket.

b. Chest: Chest opens up facing side pole.

c. Arms: Straight, in front (aligned with right foot), and away from the body. Racket head is vertical. Wrist is parallel to right foot.

d. Legs: Weight transitions to front leg. Knees slightly bent.

e. Feet: Right foot still facing side fence. Back foot opens up facing side pole of net on toes

4. Extension

a. Head: Stays where contact point was.

b. Chest: Chest opens up now completely facing the net.

c. Arms: Arms are straight, top of racket facing the net. Racket face is vertical NOT open or closed.

d. Legs: Weight is still on front leg. Knees slightly bent. Back Leg:

e. Feet: Right toes facing side pole of net. Back toes facing net. Necessary for hips to open.

5. Follow Through

a. Head: Head pops up and is facing the net.

b. Chest: Chest is facing net.

c. Arms:

i. Arms: Wrapped over shoulder. Left elbow is facing net. Racket is “back scratching.”

d. Legs: Weight is still on front foot. Knees slightly bent.

e. Feet: Front toes facing side pole of net. Back foot toes face the net. Basically, the kids are opening up their hips.


Forehand Volley


1. Ready Position

o Head: The head is facing the net. The chin is up

o Chest: Chest is facing the net.

o Arms: Racket head is aligned with the head and is straight up. Elbows are wide. There is a wide space from the racket to the stomach. Right hand is at bottom of racket. Left hand is on top. The hands are attached.

o Legs: Knees are slightly bent.

o Feet: The feet are wider than the shoulders. The feet are facing the net.

2. Mini Unit Turn

a. Head: Looking at incoming ball.

b. Chest: Chest turns a little bit facing right side pole of the net

c. Arms:

i. Right Arm: Right arm is in front of the body, slightly bent. Racket head lags the wrist slightly. Butt of the racket is in front of the legs. Racket head is straight and facing the net.

ii. Left Arm: Left arm turns, slightly bent, about 6 inches from the grip.

d. Legs: Knees are slightly bent.

e. Feet: Toes slightly turn to the right. This will happen naturally with the unit turn

3. Punch

a. Head: Stays on the ball

b. Chest: Chest is facing the net

c. Arms:

i. Right Arm: Right arm finishes on left hip. Strings are facing left side of the net. Racket head is above the hand.

ii. Left Arm: Left arm is facing left side of the fence about two feet further than the right hand

d. Legs and feet: Left foot crosses right leg. Left Toes facing right side pole of net. Right foot stays still


Backhand Volley


1. Ready Position: Same as Forehand

2. Mini Unit Turn

a. Head: Looking at incoming ball.

b. Chest: Chest turns a little bit facing left side pole of the net

c. Arms: Arms are in front of the body, slightly bent. Racket head lags the wrist slightly. Butt of the racket is in front of the legs. Racket head is straight and facing the net.

d. Legs: Knees are slightly bent.

e. Feet: Toes slightly turn to the left. This will happen naturally with the unit turn

3. Punch

a. Head: Stays on the ball

b. Chest: Chest is facing the net

c. Arms: Arms on right side of the body. Racket head is above the hands.

d. Legs and feet: Right foot crosses left leg.


Overhead


1. Ready Position: Same as Volley

2. Trophy Position:

a. Head: Looking at ball in sky

b. Chest: Facing the right fence.

c. Arms:

i. Left arm: Straight to the sky in lined with the shoulder.

ii. Right arm: Bent behind the body. Racket head is at 45 degrees. Strings facing the right fence. Right elbow up high. Right Shoulder, elbow, and racket 90 degree angle

d. Legs and feet: Legs slightly bent. Feet wide. Toes facing side fence.

3. Movement: What happens when we have to move?

a. Right side: Walk to the right

b. Left side: Walk backwards

c. Back side: Cross the left foot over the right foot

d. Shuffle

4. Contact Point

a. Head: Looking at ball

b. Chest: Facing the net and opens up.

c. Arms:

i. Left arm: Goes low to the left side of the body

ii. Right arm: Straight at 45 degree angle.

d. Legs and feet: Legs slightly bent. Feet wide. Toes open up facing right side corner of net.

5. Follow Through

a. Head: Still looking up

b. Chest: Facing the net

c. Arms:

i. Left arm: About a foot behind the right arm.

ii. Right arm: To the left side of the left leg.

d. Legs and feet: Right foot naturally pivots as player follow through

6. Feeding

- Ground Stroke Feeding: One coach is on the deuce side and one coach is on the ad side. The deuce side coach is feeding forehand and the ad side coach is feeding backhands. The coach feeds the first ball in no mans land, the second ball at the service line, and the third ball inside the service line. The kids are moving forwards

- Ground Stroke, Volley, Overhead:


7. Rallying Games


- Rally with the Pro

o There is one line of players on the deuce side and one line of players on the ad side. Players start at no mands land. Pro rally’s with player and see’s how many shots the player can get in a row. Pro yells out new records!

o Advanced Version: Player must hit forehand then backhand, forehand, then backhand.

- Volley with the Pro: Pros are hitting volley to volley with the kids.

- Beat the Pro Groundstrokes: Pro players points down the line with the kids

- Beat the Pro Volleys: Pro players volley points down the line with the kids.


8. Games

- Hatrick

o 4 kids on the deuce side starting at no mans land. 4 Kids on the ad side starting a no mand land. Coaches choose captains. Captains name their respective teams. Coach feeds approach shot, volley, and overhead. If kid makes all three, they get a “hattrick,” and get a point for their team. If he/she misses a shot they still continue and finish the three shots but do not get a point for their team. First team up to five points wins.

- Overhead Zing

o 4 kids on the deuce side starting at the service line. 4 Kids on the ad side starting at the service line. Coaches choose captains. Captains name their respective teams. Coaches feed a lob and player must make overhead. If player makes overhead within the doubles line, he must run around the court while the coach hits the ball at their feet softly. If player makes it around the court, they get point for their team.

- Jail

o Player must hit either a forehand or backhand. If player makes ball, they go to back of line. If player misses ball, they must go to Jail where they must catch the ball either in the air or on one bounce to get back in the game. When there is one player remaining, each kid gets a popcorn where the coach throws the ball up in the air and the player must catch the ball in the air. If they catch the ball, they get back in the game. If not, they stay in jail

- King of the Court Doubles

o They are 3 challenging teams and one king. Coach feeds challenging team. If challenging team wins the point, they become King. Kings count their points. First to 11 wins.

- Alligator

o Coaches line players at net. If player misses volley they loose arm. If misses another volley loose leg. If misses another volley, they must volley on their knees. If player misses another volley, they sit criss cross apple sauce. If player misses another volley, they must lay down. If player misses another volley, they are dead.


9. Lollipop at the end: Kids are lined up and given lollipops.
